Dear Self Taught Seamstress,
Hi! My name is Christopher White!
I’ve been sewing and making patterns at home for about 10 years now. The last 5 of those years I’ve been teaching Basic Fashion Design on Youtube. I also have an email newsletter where I give out basic fashion design tips, with a slight lean towards basic patternmaking.
The picture to right is a screenshot of me teaching on one of my Youtube videos.
I've been there...I used to struggle like you...
If you’re struggling with, not only making your own patterns, but also making them FIT (which is the ultimate goal, right?)… I can definitely relate…I’ve been there before.
I’ve been so frustrated and discouraged that I would just sit and stare at my patterns… or, what I called patterns and wondered what I was supposed to do next. It was amazing that I had even gotten the confidence to get to the point of get some resemblance of a body shape drawn on paper but…
What do I do with this… drawing? This sketch? This thing that I’m trying to call a pattern but I can tell it’s not like any of the “professional” patterns that I’ve ever seen. And I’m lost….
The confusion would freeze me up. Sometimes it would be months before I got my confidence back to even try again.
Not to mention I didn’t even have the right rulers or the right paper…( I was taping pieces of inkjet paper together to make my pattern paper)… I was just lost.
And then I would look on the internet, watch fashion shows… and daydream about when my clothing would ever, EVER look like that.
But I just couldn’t grasp the concept of how I could make my little “3D” sketches come to life by using this piece of paper to make a pattern.
And you know what the worst part of it was?
I was afraid that ONCE AGAIN I was going to do all of this work…
And it still wasn’t going to FIT… :’(
All that work would be a waste of time and effort and confidence and money and fabric that I didn’t have to be spending on mistakes…
Now, does any of this sound like what you’re going through?
- I used to sit and stare at my half-finished pattern wondering what to do, wasting precious time that I could have been spending getting the pattern done or spending time with my family.
- I was confused and that would make me irritable and frustrated because I wasn’t getting anywhere.
- I was in a constant state of damaging and rebuilding my confidence, just to damage it again when my newest effort to make a good pattern would blow up in my face.
- Even in the patternmaking book I read, the math and geometry was scary to even look at. And my confidence had suffered so many blows in the past, I didn’t want to try anything that was that complicated because I just knew I was going to mess it up like I did with everything else in the past.
- I didn’t know what tools I needed to create a good pattern that was going to fit, and even if I had had them, I wouldn’t have known how or when to use them.
- I didn’t know what measurements to take that would help me make a better pattern to help me get a better fit which led to even more frustration and wasted time.
If any of this sounds like something you can relate to, keep reading…
But Then a Bit of Good Fortune Came My Way...
As luck would have it, I was fortunate enough to meet another wonderful fashion designer who took me under his wing. He had won several awards in a competition called Career Day, which is a competition where all of the colleges in a certain region of the US compete for a chance to win different prizes for their design prowess.
He is one of the few people that I’ve had the pleasure to meet who aren’t actually working in the apparel industry whose garments look like they belong in a store. And it just so happened that a friend of mine was taking a class with him and wanted to introduce me.
She knew how unfulfilled I felt because of my lack of talent. And she thought maybe he could help me achieve my goals.
I’m sure you can figure out that she must have been right. **giggle**
Once he assessed my problems, he saw that I lacked a structure for what I was doing.
I lacked supplies and tools…
I lacked a process.
And I lacked confidence.
So he slowly started to help me fill in the blanks. I told him about how my patterns weren’t fitting and he asked me if I had a basic pattern set.
I said, “No. What is that?”
“A basic pattern set is a group of basic patterns that already fit so if you need to make a skirt or dress from your designs, you’ll make a copy of your basic pattern set and manipulate it to fit the design,” he explained. ”But once you get your basic pattern set made and fitted correctly, you won’t have to worry about whether your designs will fit or not. You’ve already made sure they will.”
“Oh that’s cool!” I thought. Why hadn’t I thought of that?
Something miraculous also happened. As he started to explain my problems away and show me the simple solutions that I was missing, my confidence grew.
I regained a piece of hope… I could see myself creating my designs again.
How Does This Relate to You?
What I’m suggesting here is that you’re probably closer than you think. Having a lack of experience and no clear process for how to successfully make patterns that will fit every time is probably 90% of the problem for you…
And I’m gonna do for you what my mentor did for me.
I’m gonna help you take the next step in your learning!
- You could start your pattern with confidence that you knew exactly what to do to get through it so you could spend valuable time with your loved ones. No more staring at a half finished monstrosity!
- You could get rid of the confusion that makes you extra irritable because there’s no end in sight and you’re not making progress.
- You could regain and continually grow the confidence in your ability to make patterns every time you sat down to make a new one to the point where you surprise yourself when they come out better than you thought.
- You could breeze through the patternmaking mathematics because you have a secret patternmaking calculator that performs some of the math for you.
- You had the patternmaking tools you needed and you could receive direct instructions on how and when to use each one.
- You could take the exact measurements you needed to make a pattern that fits and save time taking useless measurements that’ll just confuse you.
Now I may not have experience making million dollar bras like Victoria’s Secret. I may not have worked for Versace, Prada, Gucci, or, my personal favorite, Christian Dior… But you know what…
I DO know the basics of how to make clothing. I DO know how to make it fit correctly. And I DO know how to save you time by teaching you a process for ensuring that your clothing fits so you don’t have to WORRY about that again.
Can I Even Sew?
So do you want to see some of the clothing I’ve made in the past?
Ok here we go…
Let's Get a Second Opinion...
Now, if you recall, at the beginning of this letter I mentioned that I’d been teaching people basic fashion design on Youtube for the past 5 or so years. What I did here was take some screenshots of comments that people have made about my little videos 🙂
Here's My Solution to the Problem
So hopefully by now you’re confident that I can definitely teach you how to make clothing that fits. And I’m going to do it by teaching you how to create your own basic pattern set, just like the one my mentor helped me create!
But I can’t personally come to your home and teach it to you so I created The Basic Pattern Set Creation Course.
It’s an online video course that is broken up into 3 main parts that teach you how to create your 3 main basic block patterns using my specific Pattern Graphing Technique. Here’s the breakdown of each section:
The Basic Bodice
- You get 5 in-depth videos which give you exact instructions so you can create your front bodice correctly.
- You get 5 more in-depth videos that give you exact instructions so you can create your back bodice correctly.
- You get 2 downloadable worksheets which give you step-by-step, fill in the blank instructions (that you can print out and write on) so you can follow along with the video and create your front and back bodice correctly.
- You get 2 downloadable, quick-sketch, whiteboard drawings which give you a pattern creation visual so you can understand from a bird’s eye view what your front and back bodice patterns are going to look like and all the steps we’re going to cover.
At a community college in Dallas, Texas, you learn this on the first half of the first semester… so at $111/credit hour x 4 hours= $444 for the first semester divided by 2 (since you learn this in the first half of that semester)… so the value of part one is an estimated $222.
The Basic Skirt
- You get 5 in-depth videos which give you exact instructions so you can prepare your front and back skirt patterns correctly.
- You get 2 more in-depth videos that give you exact instructions so you can actually create your skirt patterns correctly for the front and back.
- You get a downloadable worksheet which gives you step-by-step, fill in the blank instructions (you can also print this one out as well) so you can follow along with the video and create your front and back skirt correctly.
- You also get another downloadable, quick-sketch, whiteboard drawing which gives you a pattern creation visual so you can understand from a bird’s eye view what your front and back skirt patterns are going to look like and all the steps we’re going to cover.
At the same community college in Dallas, Texas, you learn this on the second half of the first semester… so the value of part two is also an estimated $222.
The Basic Sleeve
- You get 4 in-depth videos which give you exact instructions so you can create your sleeve pattern correctly.
- You get 1 more in-depth video that gives you sewing instructions so you can gather your cap ease easily into your armhole.
- You get a downloadable worksheet which gives you step-by-step, fill in the blank instructions (you can also print it too) so you can follow along with the video and create your sleeve correctly.
- You also get a excel Quick Sheet or Basic Pattern Formula Chart which gives answers when you provide the measurements so you can easily figure out difficult parts of this course like the dart intakes…
At the same community college, the basic sleeve takes up about 1/3 of the course for the second semester so if you take one semester’s price at $444 and divide into thirds you have an estimated value of about $148*.
*Note: None of these estimates include the costs of supplies needed.
Sounds Great! But What's the Catch?
Of course, there’s a little catch…
This course will be at a special low price for a LIMITED time. But because of the value of the information, I’m going to eventually raise the price. Especially because, from what people tell me, I seem to have a knack for explaining things well. I’m just not sure when the price will go up or this offer disappears altogether.
But don’t worry, the cost is going to be much less than you might think. And it’s much less than trying to get me to teach you myself and paying by the hour (currently $25/hour) if you could get a hold of me to teach you the whole thing since I’m always pretty busy.
And it’s definitely much less than trying to learn this yourself through trial and error where you’re probably going to mess up lots of fabric, waste your precious time and shoot your confidence in the foot again while still ending up with no result.
Turn Up the Value with a Few Bonuses
But wait there’s more!
Along with The Basic Pattern Creation Course you get 2 bonuses:
The Close Fit Contour Tutorial
Once you get your basic bodice created, you’ll be ready to make clothing all the clothing you want right? And that’s totally possible… unless you want to create a strapless, low-cut scooped neckline, or leave off the sleeves. Then you’ll start to see the where you need just a little extra help to figure out how to make these new types of garments fit correctly.
As a bonus, I’ve included the Close Fit Contour Tutorial to show you how to make patterns for these types of garments fit without all the fuss.
You could spend countless hours trying to figure out exactly how to fit your bodice to get rid of the gapping that occurs in the neckline or the armhole when you start to cut into the body of the pattern. The cost of learning this on your own could be well over $100 of ruined expensive fabrics and wasted time…
But now you can use the Close Fit Contour Tutorial to get the fit you’re looking for!
The Full Dart Manipulation Video Set
Another problem with the Basic Pattern Set is that it’s boring! You’ll get frustrated with trying to think of all the designs that you can’t do because of the default placement of the darts.
Fashion Labels from the high end down to the cheap stuff all know how to do one little thing to get more bang for their buck: Dart Manipulation.
Shoulder darts? Got it.
Cowl Neck? Easy Peasy.
So to help you get even more out of the Basic Pattern Set Creation Course, I’m including the Full Dart Manipulation Video Set.
7 of these videos were released on YouTube to see if people would get some value out of them. And even though they were well received there were 3 dart manipulation videos that I never released and I’m now providing the whole video set as a bonus to the Basic Pattern Set Creation Course.
This video set teaches:
- Intro to Dart Manipulation
- 2 Different Dart Manipulation Techniques
- Understanding Back Darts
- Creating a Y-Shaped Dart
- Changing Darts into Style Lines
- Changing Darts to Gathers
- Changing Darts into Flare
- Creating Tuck Darts (Unreleased)
- Creating Multiple Darts (Unreleased)
- Creating a Basic Cowl Neck (Unreleased)
Now of course, you could just watch the free videos on Youtube that I have and that would be cool, but just imagine if you had to figure out all of this by yourself! This video set is worth about $50 in wasted fabric and the frustration of making ugly gathers and crooked style lines.
Amazing Value at a Great Price
Ok so I’ve beat around the bush too long! How much is this going to cost you?
Well let’s see what we’ve come up with so far…
For the main event, The Basic Pattern Creation Course we have an estimated value of $592! Plus the $150 value of the fabric and time lost with the gaps the bonuses help fill in, brings us to a total value of $742.
Now, I did mention that for me to teach you this one-on-one would be about $25/hour, but you still gotta catch me since I’m usually busy working on some piece of my business. And that’s cheap compared to the years I struggled before I met my mentor. All the frustration and misused fabrics!
But you won’t have to go through that! You’ll be able to use this course to save lots of time and money by getting the fit right the first time, before you have a chance to mess up your expensive fabric with ill-fitting cocktail designs.
Who knows? You might even be able to sell one of your garments and make back your registration 🙂
Ok so here goes…
The price is definitely NOT… $742…
Or even… half of that at $300. Nope…
Now half of THAT… is about $147 and that’s how much I’m definitely thinking about charging very soon for this course (that took me several years to learn and a couple of long months to record for you…)
But I’ve decided today… you pay only $47.
It’s my gift to the struggling, frustrated designer locked inside of you (and all of us)…
So if you’re the type of person that likes to take advantage of opportunities rather than wait and pay more, then this is for you!
Try it for 30 days, 100% Risk Free
Within 30 days if, for any reason, you decide you would rather scrape together free information or attend a college and pay crazy high prices or basically just fend for yourself, you are more than welcome to! Just send me an email and I’ll refund 100% of your money as quick as possible.
But 30 days is a while so you have time to go through the product and the bonuses a few times, download the worksheets and get a good feel for the course. Take some time to get to know the course then dive into the hands-on portion of it. THEN decide if you want to keep it or not.
If you’re a quick learner you may be able to breeze through this and be making clothing before the 30 days is up!
Here's the Bad News
So here’s the bad news…
I sold this in August 2015 for the same $47 to a select group of students but the difference is… There were 4 bonuses total that they got when they registered for the course.
Now there’s only two here… So I’ve already made cuts ONCE. So it’s very likely that I’ll make changes again, but this time it’ll probably be the price going up to $147. I’m seriously thinking about it…
And the longer you wait… the closer it gets to the next time this offer changes. The price is going up and the bonuses may or may not be included.
And let’s be honest, I’m the only place you can get my version of how to create a basic pattern set, with my teaching style that people have told me numerous times is very clear and easy to understand. Yes, the option is always open to go to some accredited, reputable school that teaches fashion design. And sit in a boring, cold, quiet classroom and learn this stuff while paying an arm, a leg, and your firstborn in order to pay for classes.
You can definitely do that if that seems like a better option to you…
But I’m offering another way, an opportunity to have your cake and eat it too. But only if you act fast and take advantage of the timing.
Hear From People Who Enjoy My Teaching Style
Here are some reviews from folks who got to the next step in their sewing and patternmaking journey with a little help from me:
If you’re having trouble making patterns that FIT…
I have for you a proven way to make your own clothing patterns FIT… EVERY TIME! And even how to automate some of the hard parts too.
If you create your basic pattern set using my specific Pattern Graphing Technique, you’ll be able to quickly and easily create your own clothing patterns to mirror your own designs WITHOUT having to spend extra time making sure they fit your body type and your shape.
I’ve created the Basic Pattern Set Creation Course to help you accomplish this a lot easier and faster than you would trying to figure all of this stuff out yourself. This course is divided into 3 parts for the Basic Bodice, Basic Skirt, and the Basic Sleeve. Each part has about 5 videos each which totals up to about 5 hours of video content across the entire course.
Each part has its own worksheets and pdfs that I’ve created to help make this as easy to follow along as possible. I’ve even included in this course a Quick Sheet Excel Formula Chart that allows you to put in specific measurements during certain parts of the course and have it literally spit out the answer in a split second. This is especially helpful when figuring out dart intakes which is confusing to do manually without the Quick Sheet.
When you register you’ll also get 2 bonus tutorials:
The Close Fit Contour Tutorial - when combined with the Basic Pattern Set Creation Course, this tutorial allows you to safely cut away sections of the bodice for different necklines or closer fit like when doing corsets, without sacrificing fit.
The Full Dart Manipulation Video Set – when combined with the Basic Pattern Set Creation Course, this video set allows you to get more variation out of your patterns by allowing you to change the position of your darts (like making a waist dart into a shoulder dart) or change the state completely (like changing a dart into gathers or seamlines).
Total Estimated Value
- The Basic Pattern Set Creation Course, estimated value = $592 (if you were to take this at a community college, not including supplies and textbooks).
- The 2 bonus tutorials, estimated value = $150
- Total Estimated Value = $742
Special Low Price
But as we’ve discussed before, you won’t be paying $742...
Your total price for today is :
68% off the future price increase to $147
And I guarantee that I’ll refund your money within 30 days of purchase if you don’t like the product.
Just send me an email and I’ll get your refund completed A.S.A.P.
Are You Ready?
So… Whatcha waiting for?

Thanks for reading and I hope you enjoy this course!
P.S. If you’re still on the fence, think about the money you save by taking my Basic Pattern Set Creation Course. There’s an overall 93% discount on the VALUE of the course and its bonuses. Then if you look at the future price of $147 (which could happen any day now) that you’ll actually end up paying if you wait, you still save 68% off that price if you buy now.
The other scenario is that I could do in the future like I did within this letter and just eliminate the 2 remaining bonuses so you’ll be paying more for less, basically.
So if you buy now you’re getting way more value for your money than if you procrastinate and try to wait until later.
You can try it today 100% risk free.
You’ve read the testimonials… You read that my teaching methods are clear, concise and effective… And since you’ll actually be able to make clothing that not only fits every time, this is actually an easier course of action to take. P.P.S. If you’re having problems now and you don’t register for my Basic Pattern Creation Course, then what are you going to do about your clothing issues?
Are you still going to be sitting and staring at your pattern like I did? Not getting any work done, just sitting there trying to magically come up with the correct method for how to draft your next pattern? Or how to easily manipulate the darts so you can create the cowl neck you need for this design? Or how to fit the bodice for a deep cut neckline?
Are you still going to be frustrated and let your confidence take hit after hit while you wallow in your confusion? Or…
…Do you think you might just give up one day altogether? Are you going to be one of those people who looks back and says, “Oh! I used to like designing clothing but I could never quite figure out how to make them fit right…”
Don’t let this happen to you. Maybe this is a wake-up call.
Get registered now so you don’t have to regret it later when the price jumps or the offer disappears completely.
